Accidents at Work*

For a person to make a claim for an injury arising from an accident that occurred while they were working, the accident must have been caused by the fault of their employer.  An employer can be at fault for any of the following reasons.

• not providing safe equipment
• not providing a safe, risk free place to work
• allowing employees to use machinery, or equipment which is not safe
• not providing proper protective equipment
• not providing proper training or supervision to people who require it

This list in not complete and there are many ways in which an employer can be responsible for injuries arsing from an accident at work, as an employer is responsible for the healthy and safety of employees during the course of their working day.

Building Sites / Construction Sites

Accidents on building sites are quite common due to the nature of the work involved.

A construction worker can be injured by falling debris, while using unsecured equipment, by engaging in risky practices, by engaging in heavy lifting without having proper manual handling training and by slip, trip or fall type accidents.

If you have been injured whilst working on a building site, it is important to take photographs where possible, and keep a record of how the incident occurred.

Food Service Industry Accident*

If you are an employee working in the food service industry, in a restaurant, café or any premises that is involved in the sale of food and have suffered injuries as a result of an accident, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation from your employer. Common injuries in this area include burn and scalds, crush injuries, by engaging in heavy lifting without having proper manual handling training and by slip, trip or fall type accidents.
